This release includes the following new features:

• new authentication provider that supports more ways to authenticate. Also the API access is now more simpler: only an API access key is used. No more Firebase token! Please note that, despite announced earlier, it is not required to recreate the API key but it is a good idea to login to the app once to have the system create a new profile for the user.
• each document now can only has a single open RFC. Every new edit is made on top of the RFC.
• change history has been refined and now does not show duplicate applied RFC and document state change
• each document now has a "change diff" page if there is a pending RFC for it
• airport document now allows adding telephone number, e.g. ATIS
• map lower/upper limits have been re-styled
• airspace document now allows adding a transponder code
• support for OpenAIR TP command that contains the airspace transponder code if set
• several bug fixes and improvements

We are about to release the next version of the web application in the next hours. This new release uses a new authentication provider which will simplify API access a lot. Unfortunately, this is a breaking change and requires each user password to be reset and API key to be recreated! We'll keep you posted when everything is up and running again. Expect some downtime and probably some occasional hiccups afterwards.

In all cases, make sure to completely clear browser cache when you experience any difficulties with the login.

Within the next days, we will release a new version of the web application that uses a new authentication provider that allows for more ways to authenticate and use openAIP. This new app version will also simplify the API usage a lot - it will then only be required to obtain and send an API key instead of requesting a Firebase token. Please note that this is a breaking change! This will also require each user to reset the user password. Once this is done, the user is offered a self-service portal that allows the setup of several alternative authentication mechanisms. We will announce the start of the rollout of the new app version hours prior to the start.

Temporary restricted areas in Austria from 16.09 - 26.09.2024 will be established during a military exercise. Please consult official AIP SUP for hours of operation and more details.

In the next weeks, we will release a new version of the app that uses a new authentication provider. This provider allows a lot more ways to authenticate and use OpenAIP, for example using passwordless authentication, fingerprint readers and face unlock. With this change, the requirement to obtain and send a Firebase access token will be removed for all public API endpoints. For future calls to the API, it is sufficient to obtain and send an API key with each request.

Airspace update Italy 08/2024 live and available for download.

The airspace for Malawi has been added. It will receive some more changes in the next days but should already be sufficient for low-level VFR flights.

Italy airspace update 07/2024 is live and available for download.

Huge update for the french airspace that contains mainly fixes to naming conventions and updated frequencies. Most airspace now also have a ground station callsign assigned if possible to derive from the original data.

A new app version was released. The new app contains the following:

• refined handling of automated obstacle und RC airfield imports
• RC airfields can now be added and edited manually
• various bug fixes
• some minor cosmetic changes to the UI
• detail view pages now show NOTAMs if available
• airport detail view pages now show METAR/TAF if available

A temporary airspace ED-R9 Marienmünster is active from 26.06.2024 - 27.06.2024 in Germany. Update your airspace data and consult active NOTAMs before every flight!

The new release contains the following changes:

• various bugs found and fixed
• vastly improved and more reliable validation for submitted documents (API)
• better form error representation in the UI (nested form wrappers now indicate errors in the wrapped form when form is closed)
• new branding for the app and additional cosmetic changes
• refined automated imports for obstacles and RC airfields (RC airfields will receive dedicated edit page soon)
• elevation and geocoding reliability improved on form submission
• map search bar now takes coordinates and moves map to those coordinates

Due to technical issues with our authentication provider, we were forced to re-generate the project's WEB API key. Please refer to the docs to obtain the new key! Otherwise API authentication token generation will not work! Sorry for this inconvenience.

During the "Summit on peace in Ukraine" from 13.06.2024-17.06.2024, a temporary restricted airspace LS-R91 has been established. Please consult NOTAMs before every flight for more details!

A new version of the v3 frontend is available for testing at https://next.openaip.net. Notable changes in this version:

• validation root errors are not longer showing on embedded child forms
• improved error mapping and error visualization in forms
• cursor will now correctly reset whenever OpenAIR text is changed in the editor
• activation period form values in airspace edit form will now show up correctly
• the currently selected vertex point when editing an airspace will now highlight the corresponding DP coordinate definition in the openAIR text
• self-intersections are not visible in the airspace polygon editor if detected
